Preliminary Task Evaluation

What I personally felt that went successful was, the editing and lighting of our Mise-en-scene in our prelim task. I would say this due to the more surreal and scary appearance and feeling of my environments, especially during our CCTV style sequences. I also think that we composed our scenes and shots well, such as the CCTV scenes using the golden rule in the yard with the tree in it.
- These particular parts went well because it was planned with particular care and precision, such as Connor standing on top of an adjacent bench and using pan shots to film the shot shown above. In addition, Peters expertise in editing and computer related filming also contributed greatly to the way the effect was slightly blurred and had a lime and contrasting colours effect added to make the sequence more dream-like.
- The aspects of the prelim that I found tricky was the timing of the lighting of the opening sequence. This was the lights flicking on and off in the hallway at the opening. the reason why it was hard was due to the complexity of the camera seeing through glass to the actual light. Due to the poor focus of the camera as it was impossible to mount on a tripod at this scene, it was filmed freehand, which distorted and made the image more vibrant than we wanted it to be. We could have overcome this by using a pintle mounted tripod which allowed for low-angled filming.
- The skills and knowledge that I have acquired was the basis of our future thriller opening. Also, I personally have become more familiar with the Apple iMovie editing software and other assorted software which we will all be making frequent use of during the rest of our A and AS Levels. This alongside a hopefully more authentic mise-en-scene will enable us to improve and expand upon our prelim task to enable us to make the best possible thriller opening for our upcoming project.
- I overall as a result of our preliminary task be using more comprehensive and skilled editing techniques that will enable me to help my group create a good thriller opening and could even use my skills to help guide future generations of media students doing AS Levels. This combined with a more comprehensively planned opening will hopefully earn us top marks and the creativity to make authentic and original opening scenes.
