Media Homework = Analysis of A Still Shot
Film: The Raid (2011)
This shot shows Jaka and Mad Dog in a standstill whilst holding weapons, Jaka a Combat Knife and Mad Dog a Handgun. The main focus in the shot is the what is in the centre of the two, the weapons they are holding that cross over each other to make a more dramatic and intense effect for the scene.
Both actors are positioned opposite each other to emphasize upon the fact they are enemies and intend to kill each other. The fact that they are in a standstill creates tension for the audience because since the scene freezes from faced paced to a single shot, It is overall a freeze frame shot since the scene goes still after many cross-cutting effects to create tension. It leaves them wondering who will come out victorious in the scene. it is also a mid-shot since only half of Jaka can be seen and Mad Dog is not fully in the shot, this is done to show the audience just enough whilst being zoomed enough in to show their weapons and how close they are to each other.
In addition, it leaves the viewers wondering if Jaka will survive because he cant kill Mad Dog as fast as Mad Dog could kill him because the latter has a gun. this raises tension because the audience wonders which of the two strikes first and who will survive because Jaka had literally taken a knife to a gunfight.
